Terming the alleged rape of a minor girl in Nainital unfortunate and despicable, the Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that it supports the stern action being taken by the State government under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The party has also suggested that the Congress should not view such serious matters only from the political perspective. BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that the people of Nainital are agitated because of this incident but the Congress is viewing it from a political perspective. “Whether the accused be from a particular community or any other community, nobody can be allowed to perpetrate such a crime. A crime or any other matter should be kept away from appeasement. The law is taking its course while the CM has directed the investigation agencies to work on the policy of zero-tolerance for such crimes,” he said.

Responding to allegations levelled by leader of opposition Yashpal Arya, Chauhan termed these baseless. He said that the rule of law is in place in Uttarakhand and that incidents are not only being probed but also being acted upon. The accused are behind bars in all the incidents which have come to light so far.

Chauhan further opined that the Congress has always had a negative attitude and even opposed the steps taken by the government for peace and cultural conservation in the State. When the State government enacted laws against love Jihad and land Jihad, the Congress spread propaganda, calling these steps against a particular community even though the statistics reveal the reality, the BJP leader said.
