Congress protests against rise in gender crimes

Protesting against increasing cases of crimes against women, the Uttarakhand Congress held protests in all parts of the State on Saturday. The Congress workers held protests and burned the effigy of the State government in all the block headquarters.
The Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara, former chief minister Harish Rawat, leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya and Congress MLAs took part in the protest in Roorkee. The PCC president Mahara said the incidents of atrocities on women have increased alarmingly in the State. He said that the State government is paying no heed on the rising cases of crime against women.
In Dehradun, the Congress workers and leaders held a protest at Gandhi Park. The vice president of the State Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the crime against women and lower sections of society is increasing and it appears as if the State government is deliberately encouraging such activities. He alleged that the BJP Mandal president is involved in harassment of a minor girl at Salt in Almora district, which is most deplorable. Dhasmana added that the culprits in the Ankita Bhandari murder case are yet to be brought to book.
The Mahanagar Congress president Jaswinder Gogi said that the women’s safety is at peril due to the apathetic attitude of the State government and police. Large number of leaders and workers of the party took part in the protest.
