Ambedkar laid the foundation of a strong India by playing an important role in framing of the constitution: Mahara

Rich tributes were paid by the leaders and workers of Uttarakhand Congress to BR Ambedkar on the occasion of the Constitution Day on Saturday. A seminar was organised at the headquarters of the State unit of the Congress party on the occasion. Addressing the gathering the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the country adopted the constitution on November 26 and it is the document which provides us a feeling of independence. He said that on one hand the fundamental rights provided by the constitution have become our shield and on the other the fundamental duties remind us of our responsibilities towards the nation. Mahara said that Ambedkar laid the foundation of a strong India by playing an important role in framing the constitution. He said that Ambedkar wanted to set social harmony in the country and apart from being a framer of the constitution he also raised his voice against the social evils. The PCC president exhorted the party workers to follow the path shown by Ambedkar. He said that Ambedkar in his last speech had warned that India would lose its freedom once again if the constitution is not followed in letter and spirit. “Ambedkar had said that hero worship in politics would become a guaranteed path of degradation and dictatorship. He had said that we not only need political democracy but we should also aspire for social democracy,’’ Mahara said.

The PCC president administered an oath to Congress workers to protect the constitution on the occasion. Former minister Hira Singh Bisht, vice presidents Mathura Dutt Joshi, Suryakant Dhasmana, Mahanagar president Jaswinder Gogi and others were present on the occasion.
