Congress MLAs pay homage to disaster victims in Bharadisain

PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The Congress MLAs decided to stay at Bharadisain, the summer capital of the State on Wednesday night after the end of the Monsoon session of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha. On Thursday morning the Congress MLAs staged a sit in outside the assembly building.

The Congress members led by the leader of opposition, Yashpal Arya took out a candle march in the Vidhan Sabha premises in the memory of the victims of the recent natural disasters in Dharali ( Uttarkashi) and other parts of the State on Wednesday night. They placed the candles on the doorsteps of the assembly building and observed a two minute silence to pay their homage to those who died in these incidents of natural disaster in the State. The deputy leader of Congress legislature party Bhuwan Kapdi, Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh and other MLAs of the party paid homage to the victims and expressed solidarity with the affected families. The independent MLA from Khanpur Umesh Sharma also took part in the programme.

The candle march of the Congress MLAs came after the accusation of the ruling BJP that the opposition thwarted discussion on the incidents of natural disaster in the State inside the assembly. The LoP Yashpal Arya told The Pioneer that the allegation of ruling party on opposition is baseless and mischievous. He said that the Congress wanted to have discussion on deteriorating law and order situation, disaster management works and unemployment but the government fled away from discussion.

Arya claimed that the BJP ministers, chief minister and others were prepared to leave Bharadisain immediately after the speaker adjourned the session sine- die on Wednesday afternoon but when they realised that the Congress MLAs are staying in Bharadisain the CM and some ministers decided to stay back.

Chakarata MLA Pritam Singh said that in the meeting of the business advisory committee (BAC) the agenda to run the house for four days was decided. He said that the government on the basis of numbers it has in the Vidhan Sabha got the supplementary budget and other bills which is unfortunate. Singh said that apart from deteriorating law and order situation the opposition wanted discussion on pathetic disaster management and failure of government in relief and rescue operation and important issues such as corruption and employment. He claimed that since the government had no answers for the questions of opposition it deliberately curtailed the session.
