Large numbers of people arriving here for the Somwati Amavasya Snan to be observed on Monday resulted in major traffic congestion on the highway and city roads on Saturday. As multitudes thronged the pilgrim city to bathe in the Ganga on the sacred occasion, the situation left many hassled with major inconvenience being faced by both the visitors and the locals.
A large number of devotees started arriving in Haridwar on Sunday which drastically increased the traffic pressure in the city. While there was major traffic congestion on the highways, the large number of devotees left little space in the market areas. While the local businessmen are happy due to the large number of visitors and the expected business, the locals are bearing the brunt of inconvenience caused by congestion due to the large number of vehicles and people.
