U’khand in charge Anurgarh Narayan asks leaders to hold combined protests with consultation with PCC
Taking serious note of the discordance among the leaders of Uttarakhand Congress and tendency of many leaders to issue individual statements, the in-charge of Uttarakhand unit of Congress party Anugrah Narayan Singh has issued a warning. In a letter sent to Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Pritam Singh, the in charge Anugrah Narayan Singh has said that the Congress leadership has directed the party leaders and workers to help the general public affected by Covid-19 pandemic. He added that the Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have also asked the party leaders to engage in democratic protest against the wrong policies and decisions of the government. Anugrah Narayan Singh said that it is seen that many a times the party leaders overlook the instructions of the party leadership and issue personal statements which create an uncomfortable situation for the party. He opined that the leaders should shun individual protest and give priority to the combined protest against the policies of the government. On a terse note Singh asked the PCC president to inform all Congressmen about the letter and said that those not following the directive should be identified and disciplinary action should be initiated against them.
The PCC President Pritam Singh accepted that the in charge has written a letter to him. He said that Congress leaders should keep coordination with the PCC on their agitation plans. “I have worked with many PCC presidents in the past and worked with coordination with them. I too would be replaced by someone else. Does that mean that I should open another front against him?’’ he questioned.
The letter of Anugrah Narayan Singh assumes significance as former Chief Minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat had recently opened a front against the state government on his own. His individual political activity unnerved the state unit headed by Pritam Singh. Apart from Rawat some other Congress leaders of the state appear to be charting their own course.
