Uttarakhand Congress has stepped up pressure on the Pushkar Singh Dhami government for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. The party has decided to take out ‘Ankita Ko Nyay Do’ Yatras in different parts of the State from Saturday.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal will lead the Yatra which will commence in Srinagar on Saturday. Former chief minister Harish Rawat will take out the Yatra in Haridwar while former PCC presidents Pritam Singh and Karan Mahara will take out Yatras in Dehradun and Pithoragarh respectively.

The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana said that in a press conference held on Friday, cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal has ruled out a CBI probe in the Ankita Bhandari murder case.

Terming the stand of the government as unfortunate, Dhasmana said that it clearly shows that BJP is afraid that it will get exposed in CBI investigation. Interacting with the mediapersons on Friday, Dhasmana said that since new disclosures have been made by Urmila Sanawar, the wife of former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore, the case should be handed over to the CBI for investigation.

He said that the people of the State want to know about the VIP involved in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. People want the culprit to be arrested and punished. He said that from day one the BJP government of the State and Centre were making efforts to ensure that the name of the VIP involved in Ankita’s murder should not get exposed and now that the identity of the VIP is known to everyone. Dhasmana said that the State government should respect the sentiments of the people and make a recommendation for a CBI probe in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. He averred that the Congress party will not rest till all the culprits involved in the heinous crime are behind the bars.
