Took out a procession in Dehradun; Pritam plans to intensify the agitation
In protest against the rising prices of petrol and diesel, the Congress party took out a procession in Dehradun city on Monday. The Uttarakhand Congress has resolved to hold protests to register its protest against the rising fuel prices on Mondays. The Congress party leaders and workers took out a procession (foot march) on the roads of the Dehradun city on the day. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh led the march. The Congress leaders and workers distributed pamphlets in which comparison of fuel prices during the Congress led regime and the BJP government was given.
The Congressmen started the march after offering floral tributes to Baba Sahab B R Ambedkar at Clock Tower. The march meandered through Paltan Market, Dhamawala, and Dispensary road and ended at Rajiv Gandhi Complex.
Before embarking on the march, the Congress workers assembled at the Rajiv Bhawan. Addressing the party workers, PCC President Pritam Singh said that at a time when the international prices of crude are at their bottom Indian government is regularly increasing the prices of petrol and diesel. He said that the highest excise duty is imposed by India on petrol and diesel. Singh said that the Congress would continue its agitation till the government stops this open loot. He said that the people reeling under the onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic were hoping that the Union government would provide some relief to them but instead of helping them, the Narendra Modi government has rubbed salt on the wounds of people by hiking the prices of petrol and diesel. Singh said that the Congress would further intensify the protest from next week.
The Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana, state general secretary Vijay Saraswat, former MLAs Vijay Pal Sajwan and Rajkumar, Mahanagar President Lal Chand Sharma and others took part in the procession.
