The Uttarakhand Congress has questioned the State government for backing away from holding the upcoming budget session in Gairsain. The party has accused the Pushkar Singh Dhami government of lacking the political will on the issue of Gairsain.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara told The Pioneer that it has become apparent that for BJP, Gairsain is only an election issue. He said that the BJP government had made Gairsain the summer capital of Uttarakhand and tried to take the credit for it during the election. Mahara said that the state government has failed to sit for even a single day in the summer capital ever since former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had made an announcement to make Gairsain, the summer capital in March 2020. Launching a scathing attack on the Dhami government, the PCC president said that the government is now shying away from holding the Assembly session in Gairsain and is seeking excuses for it. He added that the BJP government has not undertaken any infrastructural and other works in Gairsain. Mahara said that the neglect of Gairsain by the BJP government is an insult to the Uttarakhandiyat and the statehood martyrs. He said that it is surprising that instead of taking a political decision on holding a session in Gairsain, the state government is getting dictated by the bureaucrats on the issue.

Mukesh Negi, who had contested as Congress candidate from the Karnprayag assembly constituency in the recent assembly election said that apart from announcing the status of summer capital, the BJP government had said that the development of Gairsain would be done by a package of Rs 25,000 crore but no work worth a single penny is visible on ground.  He said that BJP has made Gairsain an election stunt for its electoral gains. Negi added that the government lacks the political will for taking decisions on Gairsain.
