The Garhwal commissioner Sushil Kumar has directed the district election officer and district magistrate of Dehradun R Rajesh Kumar to appoint polling assistants at each polling booth to provide necessary help to the senior citizens and differently-abled voters during the elections. He said this while presiding over a meeting in the Rishiparna hall to review the preparations for the upcoming election. The DM informed Kumar about the ongoing activities in the district regarding the elections and preparations made in polling booths and other crucial locations following the Covid-19 guidelines. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and the senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Dehradun Janmejaya Khanduri also provided detailed information about the preparations for maintaining law and order and peace during the election. The commissioner also instructed the officials to ensure the implementation of covid protocols at the training site and asked to sanitise the premises regularly. He also directed to keep certain personnel reserved for election duty so that they can be deployed during the elections if needed. He also asked to appoint polling assistants at each polling booth to assist the differently-abled and senior citizens and suggested taking the help of some NGOs for its proper execution. The DIG of Garhwal zone KS Nagiyal also directed the officials concerned to keep a close watch at the checkpoints of the borders of the district to restrict the smuggling of alcohol, drugs and money that can negatively impact the elections.
