Students’ union elections to be held in universities/ colleges on Nov 5

In latest news from Dehradun, the State higher education minister Dhan Singh Rawat informed that the students’ union election in the universities and colleges across the State would be held on a single day on November 5 like last year and added that the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations would be implemented in these elections. He further said that the vice-chancellors of the universities and the principals of the colleges have been asked to take all preparations for simultaneous students’ union elections. He spoke of the State government’s efforts to follow the uniform academic calendar in the State’s higher education institutions involving admission process, examination, result, students’ union election and convocation ceremony. He further informed that after the admission in the universities and colleges is over, the students’ union election would be held simultaneously across the State on November 5.  This is to ensure that the students’ studies resume without wastage of time, he said. He further informed that in line with the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations, one candidate can contest for any post only once in the students’ union election and one can contest for any post in the executive committee election twice. Besides, the campaigning must be restricted within the campuses of the universities and colleges and election expenses for each candidate must remain fixed at Rs 5000.
