Combing operation launched in Corbett with onset of monsoon

With the onset of the monsoon season, Corbett National Park has been closed to tourists. During this period, to ensure the safety of wildlife from poachers, the Corbett administration has launched a comprehensive checking and patrolling operation Forest department personnel being formed into teams to undertake the task.
Corbett director Saket Badola stated that patrolling efforts have been intensified in the forests of Corbett in view of the monsoon. Forest personnel are conducting patrols covering about 10 kilometres per day. During these patrols, tools such as metal detectors, drones, GPS, motorboats are being deployed to enhance surveillance in addition to the use of trained elephants.
It is worth mentioning here that according to the 2022 wildlife census, Corbett is home to 260 tigers along with elephants, deer, bears and many other species. The administration claims that it is leaving no room for error when it comes to the protection of the wildlife here.
