Cold wave condition is likely to sweep across the plains for the next 24 hours while Dehradun keeps on reeling under the bone-chilling cold with the minimum hovering in the neighborhood of 2 to 3 degree Celsius. As per the weather forecast issued by the regional meteorological department, there is little likelihood of the people getting a respite from the ongoing cold wave condition in the coming few days. Rather the chill might deepen further at some places across the plains of the state.
In a yellow alert issued on Saturday, the Met department said that dense to moderate fog might enshroud several areas of the plains, particularly, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts, during the night and early morning hours on Sunday. It cautioned the commuters to be on their guard while out on the road during the time fog is likely to envelop several places.
Meanwhile, the cold is turning more and more biting nearly every passing day in Dehradun and elsewhere in the state. The minimum temperature settled at 3.5 degree Celsius, two degree below the normal, in the capital on Saturday. However, the same had dipped to 2.8 degree Celsius on Friday, making it the coldest day here this season. The cold wave condition likely to continue with little possibility of rain, the mercury would continue to settle in the neighbourhood of 2 to 3 degree Celsius in the city while the maximum is likely to settle at around 22 degree Celsius. The weather department said that there is little possibility of rain here on Sunday though the sky would remain partly overcast. Besides, the day might be a little windy.
The people living in Dehradun are bracing up for a prolonged chill as the winter has already taken the city in its freezing grip. The people living in the city are now gathering around fire to get a little warmth amidst the deepening winter chill during the late evening and night hours. The traders are shuttering shops and markets a little after the evening falls. The otherwise bustling roads cutting through the city are also looking deserted after the night falls as the people choose to be indoors to keep themselves warm.
The mercury in Dehradun settled at 3.5 degree Celsius- three degrees below the normal- while the maximum hovered around 21.8 degree Celsius on Saturday. In other places of the state, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 18.6 degree Celsius and -0.3-degree Celsius-five notches below the norma, respectively in Pantnagar on Saturday while at Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 15 degree Celsius and 1.9 degree Celsius.
