CM suspends 3 UPCL engineers  in Pauri electrocution incident

 In the aftermath of an electrocution incident in Rikhnikhal block of Pauri district, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered ordered suspension of executive engineer (EE) Vineet Kumar Saxena, sub-divisional officer (SDO) Chandramohan and junior engineer (AE) Shubham Kumar of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) with immediate effect on Thursday. The action follows the death of a contractual lineman who was electrocuted while working on an electricity line in the Rikhnikhal area on June 16.

Dhami has also directed senior officials of (UPCL) to submit a detailed explanation regarding the availability and distribution of safety equipment to field staff. He instructed the department to clarify how many safety kits are currently available and whether they are effectively reaching employees working on the ground. Dhami directed that during electrical work, safety must be given top priority.

He instructed officials to ensure that workers are equipped with helmets, gloves, safety belts, insulated tools and other essential safety gear, particularly when handling high-risk equipment such as fire-prone or sharp tools. The CM said that the State government considers the safety of every employee a priority. Dhami said that any negligence in ensuring workplace safety will not be tolerated and any lapses in this regard will lead to strict action against the responsible personnel.
