Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presented appointment letters to candidates appointed to eight posts of assistant accountant and 342 posts of Gram Panchayat development officers in the Panchayati Raj department on Sunday. The assistant accounts were selected through the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission while the Gram Panchayat development officers were selected through the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission. Congratulating those appointed in the department, Dhami said that accountants and Panchayat development officers are akin to the foundation of the basic unit of the nation’s democratic system. The nation’s democracy will be as strong as its Panchayati Raj system. The vision of good governance can be achieved only with a strong Panchayati Raj system. He told the personnel that they have to discharge the important responsibility of communicating the issues and problems of the person on the last rung of the social ladder to the government while also ensuring that the public welfare works of the government reach the citizens.

Dhami said, “The soul of the nation lives in the villages but no attention was paid to this in the past with the villages being kept at the lowest level on the developmental aspect. The money sent for the villages didn’t reach the villages earlier but under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government this situation has been changed. Under the Jan Dhan Yojana, bank accounts of more than 50 crore people were opened in villages across the nation. The reach of the post office payment bank was ensured to the villages and the effects of such steps is clearly visible in the villages today. The money under various schemes is directly reaching the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.”

The CM further said that the State government is taking various steps for development of villages including measures which were not taken in the past due to lack of will. There will be no hurdles in the development of villages if the youths remain committed to the development of their villages, he said. Panchayati Raj director Nidhi Yadav informed about various schemes of the department.
