Saturday, 18 August 2018 | PNS | Dehradun– The Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat laid wreath on the mortal remains of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the BJP national headquarters in New Delhi on Friday. He was accompanied by the State BJP chief Ajay Bhatt. Among others from the State who offered floral tribute the deceased iconic leader who presided over the creation of Uttarakhand was  the Speaker of Uttarakhand Assembly Prem Chand Agarwal. Later, they all participated in the funeral procession of the leader which started from the national party headquarters. Meanwhile, the banks, treasury, offices and educational institutions across the State were closed on Friday as the State Government had declared a holiday in all Government, semi Government offices and educational institutions  as a mark of respect to the former PM and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the day. The Uttarakhand Government had also declared a seven day mourning for the departed leader. The national flag at the Government offices, universities and other places flew half mast. In Dehradun, a condolence meeting was organised by the Mahanagar unit of BJP where a large number of party leaders and workers paid glowing homage to Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Speaking on the occasion, Dharampur MLA, Vinod Chamoli said that the path shown by Vajpayee should be followed by everyone. All the speakers spoke volume of the monumental role the late leader had played in carving Uttarakhand out of Uttar Pradesh. They said that the people of the State would hold Vajpayee in grateful remembrance for ever for his decisive role behind the creation of the state. They, further, remembered his deep love for the people of the State. The Aam Aadami Party (AAP) also organised a programme at Gandhi Park in Dehradun on the day to pay homage to the departed leader. The chairman of the State coordination committee of the party, Naveen Pirshali termed the death of Vajpayee as an irreparable loss to the nation. Condolence meetings were also organised by many social organisations in the city on Friday where his role behind the creation of the state and his impeccable honesty and unwavering commitment to the cause of the nation were recollected. Protest rally suspended as a mark of respect to BJP’s icon The joint forum of the State Government employees, teachers and contractual workers suspended its proposed protest rally slated on Friday as a mark of respect to the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. A large number of State Government employees had gathered at the Parade Ground as per the programme which included a protest meeting and a march towards the residence  of the Chief Minister.  However, the president of the morcha Thakur Prahlad Singh said that they would not take out the protest rally as earlier planned as a mark of respect to the former PM Vajpayee. “He commanded a special place in  the heart of every Indian and so it would be wrong to stage the stir as we planned on the day as the nation is now in the mourning mode,” he said while addressing the members of the morcha.
