Voluntary Blood donation- U’khand to have model colleges & villages

In an attempt to give an impetus to blood donation in the society, the State health department has prepared a plan to make model villages and model colleges for blood donation. Making the announcement in a programme organised on the occasion of World Blood donation day at IRDT auditorium here on Wednesday, the health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that model colleges and villages will be made in every district of the State. He informed that the model colleges will have 100 per cent blood donor students while in the model villages, one member of every family will be registered on the portal of voluntary blood donation.

The minister added that the department has set a target of registration of 1.5 lakh people for voluntary blood donations in different portals of the Union and State government. He said that the inclination of the people to donate blood has increased in the society which is a welcome sign. The minister directed the senior officers of the health department, the Chief Medical Officers (CMO) and nodal officers to ensure that the target of registering people for blood donation is accomplished. He said that in the year 2016-17 the State had only 29 blood banks but their number has now increased to 57. The State has 37 blood component separation units. The minister added that 19 blood collection centres have been set up in the State to ensure that the blood is available to the patients during emergencies.

Rawat said that 8171 units of blood were collected during the Raktdam Amrit Mahotsav in the State (September 17 to October 1 last year) which is second highest in the country. He further informed that 81188 registrations for voluntary blood donations were done in the e – raktkosh portal during the period.

The minister felicitated voluntary blood donors and people spreading awareness about blood donations on the occasion.

The director medical education Dr Bharti Rana, Dr Sunita Tamta, director SBTC Dr A K Nagarkar and other senior officers of the health department were present on the occasion.
