CM inspects rice purchase centre in Khatima

Directs officials to take necessary steps in interests of farmers

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted a surprise inspection of the rice purchase centre of the SMI at the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) on reaching his hometown Khatima on Friday. During his inspection, the chief minister sought information in detail about various aspects related to the purchase of rice and issued necessary instructions to the officials concerned. Dhami also used a moisture measuring device to check the moisture content in rice. Addressing the officials, the chief minister said that at all the rice purchase centres the produce brought in by the farmers should be weighed properly. Every grain brought in by the farmers should be weighed and every grain should be purchased, said the chief minister. He also observed that there was moisture in the rice due to the rainfall which had been experienced recently.

The farmers present in the market during the chief minister’s inspection demanded that the moisture standard for rise should be increased from 17 per cent to 20 per cent. They also demanded that the rice brought in by the farmers of the State should be purchased on a priority basis. Responding to them, the chief minister said that all possible relief will be provided to the farmers on the aspect of moisture. The government will work on their requirements according to the time, he added. The chief minister further said that the officials concerned had already been directed in the past that the entire quantity of rice produced by the farmers of the State should be weighed. The Rudrapur MLA Shiv Arora, farmers commission vice chairman Rajpal Singh, senior superintendent of police Manjunath TC, sub divisional magistrates Ravindra Singh, Kaustubh Mishra and others were also present in the market during the chief minister’s inspection.
