111th Kisan Mela begins at GBPUAT

The 111th All India Kisan Mela and Industry Exhibition was inaugurated at the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) on Thursday by progressive farmer Paramvir Singh Sirohi and State farmers’ commission vice chairman Rajpal Singh in the presence of the university vice chancellor Tej Pratap and others.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Singh appreciated the university’s contributions and its efforts to encourage farmers towards organic farming. Stating that natural farming is the need of the time, he said that the university will have to work jointly with the state government on mountain agriculture and control on recommendation system of agriculture safety units.

Addressing the gathering, the GBPUAT vice chancellor that the priority at present is on adopting agriculture as a commercial activity while at the same time also caring for the environment and health. In addition to deciding agriculture policy on the basis of context, the thinking and farming system have to be taken towards secure food grain production, added Pratap.

Speaking on the occasion, the university’s Extension Education director Anil Kumar Sharma informed that there are a total of 330 stalls in the Kisan Mela. Firms have also displayed techniques related to the environment and globoal warming in these stalls. Nine progressive farmers were felicitated, one booklet and two extension papers were also released on the occasion.
