Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has exhorted citizens to play their part in carrying forward the initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to eradicate the use of single-use plastic. He said this before flagging off a half marathon organised by the Forest Department. The run was flagged off from Gandhi Park to raise awareness on the need for freeing the State from single-use plastic.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister requested the participants not to rush to win the race but also to pick up the single use plastic they find lying on the way. He said that the one who does so will be a true winner.
Speaking on the occasion, Rawat said, “We all have to play a part in the campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the use of single-use plastic all over the country. We are getting full support of the residents of Dehradun to make the valley plastic-free, healthy, beautiful and green.
We have resolved to make Dehradun polythene-free as the use of plastic has become a social evil today. It has many adverse effects on humans and animals.”
He also said that the campaign which is being run by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to make Dehradun polythene-free is yielding good results. In order to make the state polythene free everyone should determine not to use polythene.
The Chief Minister also inspected the open gym being constructed by the MCD in Gandhi Park.
Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama, principal secretary Anand Bardhan and other departmental officials concerned were also among those present on the occasion.
