CM appeals to all States for adoption of UCC

Takes oath of office and secrecy as member of Uttarakhand Assembly

The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that 20 per cent of court cases in Uttarakhand would end with the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. He appealed that other States of the country should also implement the UCC.

Dhami was addressing a gathering at the state Assembly immediately after taking oath of office and secrecy as a member of the Assembly on Monday. He was administered the oath by speaker Ritu Khanduri.

Without naming the Congress, Dhami said that it had termed his statement to implement UCC in the State before the Assembly election as an election stunt. “In our first cabinet meeting after the election, a unanimous decision on UCC was taken. We have constituted an expert committee headed by Justice Ranjana Desai which would prepare the draft of the UCC,’’ he said.

The CM added that the UCC is needed in Uttarakhand because it is Devbhoomi and is the centre of religion, faith and spirituality. He said that one member from every family is in the army and the state has borders with two countries.

Dhami said that his government is working to implement the vision document of the party. The CM said that he will put his entire energy and effort into making Uttarakhand one of the leading States of the country by 2025. Quoting an event of Mahabharata, Dhami said that he is only visualising the development of the State and nothing else.  Making a passionate appeal for collective effort in fulfilling the vision of all round growth of the State, Dhami said that his journey as CM is not a personal one but is the journey of the whole of Uttarakhand and everyone is his co-passenger in the journey. He said that the State would move forward on the motto of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Prayas’.

The CM said that to fulfil the aspirations of the people of the State, his government is working on the mantra of ‘simplification, solution, disposal and satisfaction’.

Expressing his gratitude for the people of Champawat for sending him in the State Assembly with a record victory, the CM said that Champawat is a divine place of many deities.

The president of Uttarakhand BJP Madan Kaushik and many senior leaders of BJP attended the ceremony.
