The chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami called up a member of India’s women cricket team, Sneh Rana, who hails from Nainital, and congratulated her on her team’s historic victory in the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. He also announced an incentive of Rs 50 lakh for this cricket all-rounder from the State. Notably, she had contributed to her team’s success in several crucial matches with her impressive bowling and batting.
Rana’s cricketing journey began in the mountainous areas where women’s cricket opportunities were limited. Despite this, she established herself in domestic cricket through Punjab and Railways. She made her international debut in 2014 as a right-arm off-spin bowler and batter. Prior to the 2025 World Cup, she was named Player of the Series in the Sri Lanka Tri-Nation Series in April 2025, taking 15 wickets in 5 matches, earning her a place in the World Cup squad. Her 2025 World Cup haul against Pakistan became the 2025 World Cup’s highest ODI wicket-taker, taking a total of 25 wickets. Her contribution in the final was also notable despite not being part of the starting XI.
The CM in his message said: Uttarakhand’s daughters- shining on the world stage- will strengthen the State government’s sports initiatives.
He further said: “Through dedication, hard work, and struggle, Sneh Rana has proven that the daughters of Uttarakhand are second to none. Her success is an inspiration to the youth.”
