Dhami exhorts journos to pursue fearless & unbiased journalism

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the pension provided under journalist welfare fund to journalists will be increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000. Speaking at an event of Uttarakhand Patrakar Union on Sunday, Dhami directed special principal secretary Abhinav Kumar to simplify the rules regarding provision of pension to journalists. He also announced that journalists visiting Dehradun from different districts of the State will be provided accommodation by the Information department as in the past.

Stating that he is aware of problems in journalism, Dhami said that journalism has also undergone changes with time. Fearless and unbiased journalism makes an important contribution to society, he said, while adding that a journalist works to educate the show direction to society. “The journalist always plays an important role by establishing communication between the public and government while also raising problems of the citizens in front of the government and administration,” said the CM. He exhorted the journalists to always go along with clean, fearless and unbiased journalism.

Speaking on the occasion, special principal secretary Abhinav Kumar said that before he became a government employee, he had also worked as a journalist. He said that the journalists should cooperate by raising awareness on gaps they find in a constructive and factual manner while also publicising issues related to the welfare of society.
