Clear skies in Doon & snowfall in mountains forecast today
Areas in the higher reaches including Badrinath and Kedarnath received snowfall on Wednesday. However, after experiencing a cloudy day, the people of Dehradun can expect to enjoy clear skies from Thursday afternoon. However, heavy snowfall is forecast in some parts in the higher reaches.
“The sky is expected to get clear till afternoon. We might spot clear skies with no clouds at all,” said director of state meteorological centre Bikram Singh.
According to him, the maximum and minimum temperature will drop about two degrees Celsius from the normal in Dehradun. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Dehradun are likely to be around 21 degree Celsius and 12 degree Celsius respectively on Thursday. As per the forecast by state meteorological centre, heavy snowfall may occur in higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts. Further, hail is likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Nainital, Tehri, Pauri and Haridwar districts. Singh further informed that snowfall had occurred in higher reaches at and above 3000 metres altitude on Wednesday as well. “Mountainous areas including Badrinath, Kedarnath, Auli and Munsyari witnessed snowfall on Wednesday,” said Singh.
The sky will remain partly to generally cloudy in rest of the Uttarakhand on Thursday. Light rain/snowfall may occur at isolated places in the mountainous regions especially in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts.
Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at various places in the state on Wednesday were 21.2 degree Celsius and 13.6 degree Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 27 degree Celsius and 12.9 degree Celsius in Pantnagar, 14 degree Celsius and 8.2 degree Celsius in Mukteshwar and 11.4 degree Celsius and 6.6 degree Celsius respectively in New Tehri.
