Construction of the children’s traffic park in Dehradun is about 75 per cent complete and it will be open to the public in October. After its inauguration, officials will invite school children to visit the park to learn about traffic rules and road safety through recreational activities, the joint transport commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh said.  He inspected the construction site along with officials from the Transport department and Uttarakhand Peyjal Resources Development and Construction Corporation on Wednesday. The inspection took place at the City Park being developed by MDDA on Sahastradhara Road, where the Children’s Traffic Park is also being built. Singh said that the park aims to increase awareness about road safety and traffic signs among young children through interactive learning. It also seeks to instil responsible behaviour regarding road use from an early age. The department, in coordination with other departments concerned, are developing similar parks in Dehradun and Haridwar in the first phase, he said. He informed that the Uttarakhand Peyjal Resources Development and Construction Corporation is executing the park’s construction. The features of this park include model traffic tracks with intersections, zebra crossings, roundabouts, hilly roads, traffic lights, road signs, cycling tracks, footpaths, speed breakers, foot over bridges, crash barriers, railway crossings, a water body with a bridge and road furniture. He informed that the park will also include play zones with kids’ cars, bicycles and slides. A mini theatre, simulator room and workshop will also screen road safety films. The facility will display wall paintings, signage and road safety equipment. Drinking water and sanitation facilities will be available for visitors, he said.
