Chief treasury officer & accountant caught taking bribe

The Nainital chief treasury officer Dinesh Kumar Rana and account Basant Joshi were arrested by the Vigilance Establishment while taking Rs 1.20 lakh as bribe. The complainant had sent a letter to the district judge stating that himself and his colleague had submitted an application to the district judge for assured career progression.

The district judge had formed a committee comprising the additional district judge I- Haldwani, additional district judge I- Nainital and the chief treasury officer Rana. The report of the committee with the signatures of the two judges was sent to the chief treasury officer. It is alleged that Rana communicated through Joshit that each personnel concerned should pay a bribe of Rs 30,000 for getting the documentation cleared.

The Nainital district judge forwarded the complaint to the Vigilance Establishment for action. An inquiry found that the complaint was prima facie genuine and a trap team was formed. The team acted as per the rules and nabbed Rana and Joshi red-handed. The officials informed that the accused are being questioned and that further investigation will be conducted in this case.
