Cheating attempted during Railway Board online exam, youth arrested

Police have arrested a 22-year-old man who had appeared in the Railway Board examination on Tuesday on the charge of cheating during an online examination.  The incident took place at iCAT Solution examination centre on Saharanpur Road in Patelnagar, Dehradun.  The police have registered a case under section 318(2), 318(4), 61(2) BNS, and 3/4/10/11 of Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024.

According to the information received, the venue commanding officer during the second shift of the examination  found the candidate called Vivek, a resident of Charkhi Dadri in Haryana, behaving suspiciously. When he was checked, a cheating slip was found hidden inside his jacket’s sleeve.

During questioning, Vivek told the police that he had paid Rs four lakh to a man from Haryana to help him pass the exam. He also said that before the exam, he had met three people near the exam centre. They had downloaded a private messenger app on his phone and provided him with the answers which he had written on the slip, he had told police.

Police said that an organised gang might have been involved in this cheating case. “We have found a private messenger app used to share answers. All the links connected to the accused are being investigated,” a police officer probing the case said.
