The portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines have been opened for devotees with traditional chanting of Vedic hymns on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. With this, the annual pilgrimage of Char Dham Yatra has officially commenced. The portals of Gangotri Dham were opened at 10:30 AM while those of Yamunotri shrine, at 11:55 AM. Devotees in large numbers attended the portal-opening ceremonies at both the temples.
While the Kedarnath shrine is opening on Friday Badrinath shrine is scheduled to open on Sunday.
