More than 17 lakh people have visited the Char Dham shrines so far since the start of the pilgrimage in the first week of May. Meanwhile, the Tourism department has claimed that with the registration being spruced up, pilgrims are not having to wait at the registration centres in Rishikesh and Haridwar any more. The swift registration of pilgrims is helping in crowd control while also making their journey more convenient, said the officials.

According to government data, a total of 17,52,814 people have visited the Char Dham shrines and Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara so far. These include 2,34,811 pilgrims who have visited Yamunotri , 3,14,591 visitors at Gangotri, 5,68,203 at Kedarnath and 5,92,300 at Badrinath. Further, 42,909 people have visited the Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara so far.

Meanwhile, the Tourism department has stated that pilgrims arriving for the Yatra are being registered swiftly at the centres in Haridwar and Rishikesh. A total of 4,367 pilgrims were registered at the centres in Haridwar and Rishikesh on Tuesday. Apart from this, 99 were registered at Ghansali and 140 at Heena. After the registration, the arrangement of vehicles is also being ensured for the pilgrims so that they do not face any inconvenience in the journey ahead.

It is pertinent to mention here that recently, the Tourism secretary Dilip Jawalkar had visited the Rishikesh registration centre where he had directed the Transport department officials to ensure facilitation of vehicles for the pilgrims after registration. Officials of the Health department and municipal corporation had also been directed to ensure all necessary facilities for the visiting pilgrims. The Transport and Health departments have started help centres for the pilgrims. It will be recalled that initially, only one registration centre was being operated in Rishikesh but considering the high numbers of visitors, the authorities started a second registration centre in Haridwar. These registration centres are in addition to the online registration facility already provided to the pilgrims by the Tourism department.
