Champawat CWC to take statement of student beaten by teacher

Not being able to recite mathematics tables properly a student of class III was badly beaten by her teacher in a government school situated at Charakot in Champawat. The chairman of Champawat Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Bhuvan Garkoti stated that an inquiry will be conducted in the case. It is important to mention that the case happened on May 18 after which some political representatives along with the teacher allegedly exerted pressure on the victim’s family. The family further failed to file any case. After the incident was reported in the media, social activists urged the officials after which the CWC decided to inquire in to the case on Wednesday. Champawat CWC head Bhuvan Garkoti said, “We have decided to take the statement of the victim. The inquiry in the case will be done accordingly.” An activist from Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Sandeep Pant said, “The issue came in our knowledge through newspapers and I also talked to the victim’s family. I tried to file a zero FIR which failed to get registered. However, the issue was taken up with the Champawat CWC and State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR). We will try our best to ensure the culprit gets punished.” Thursday, 23 May 2019 | PNS | Dehradun
