CGST commissionerate detects GST evasion of more than Rs 3 crore

The CGST Uttarakhand commissionerate has detected an evasion of more than Rs three crore of GST by the Ujjwal Shram Sanvida Sahakari Samiti Limited. According to officials, the entity had collected sums in excess of Rs 20 crore from various government undertakings and not despited GST of more than Rs three crore. An investigation initiated against the limited firm in Dehradun revealed after initial analysis that it had collected Rs 20.24 crore from various prominent government undertakings and not deposited the GST payable on the amount.

The commissionerate found various documents during searches at various premises. During interrogation, the firm’s chairman Shailesh Verma was found to have been arrested in 2014 and sent to judicial custory in the case booked under various sections of IPC. In his recorded statement, Verma admitted that he had collected GST from his clients had failed to deposit it in the government account. In the current financial year, the CGST Uttarakhand commissionerate has detected total evasion amounting to Rs 75.59 crore in 55 cases, out of which Rs 68.59 crore has been recovered.
