The centuries-old Siddheshwar Devlang fair, held in Pujargaon Dhanari village, concluded on Thursday with large participation of the villagers.
According to legend, Devlang fair started when the region was struck by drought and epidemics in ancient times. The villagers were then commanded in a dream by Lord Siddheshwar to erect a large pine tree in the temple courtyard and worship it. People believe that as the villagers had performed what they had been commanded, no calamity had struck it and the harvest was bountiful. The tradition has been continuing ever since.
The temple priest Shambhu Prasad Bhatt said that the Devlang fair was a symbol of their heritage and faith. The president of the fair committee, Pawan Nautiyal said that the recent renovation of the temple has improved the people’s participation in the fair. .
