Centre gives investment clearance for Jamrani project

The Rs 2584.10 crore multipurpose project to come up on Gaula river

The government of India has given investment clearance to the ambitious Jamrani dam project of Uttarakhand. The irrigation secretary H C Semwal said that the clearance was given in a meeting on investment clearance chaired by secretary water resources in New Delhi on Friday. The officers of NITI Aayog and Central Water Commission attended the meeting in which proposals of investment clearance for the projects of West Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Manipur were taken up.

 In the meeting the clearance for Rs 2584.10 crore Jamrani dam multipurpose project was given under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana. The clearance has been given on a 90:10 ( Centre: State) basis. He said soon rehabilitation and other works on the project would be initiated

The project aims to produce 63 million units of electricity and an additional irrigation facility would be available for 57065 hectares of land from it. The project would also provide 42 MCM drinking water to the Haldwani city till the year 2055. The government has set a target to complete the project by the year 2027.
