A centre of excellence for training teachers of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools would soon come up in Dehradun. The Union Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 20 crores for setting up this centre. On Tuesday, the regional officer of CBSE Dehradun, Ranvir Singh met the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat at his residence and requested him to provide a plot of 3550 square meter attached to the already allotted land of regional office near Doon University for setting up the centre of excellence. Rawat while giving his consent for land allotment for the training centre instructed the District Magistrate (DM) of Dehradun to prepare a proposal in this regard. The regional officer thanked CM for his help to allot a plot measuring 7750 square meter in Mothorowala near Doon University for setting up the regional office, Dehradun.
It worth mentioning here that the 700 schools in Uttarakhand and 1100 schools of western Uttar Pradesh are affiliated to the CBSE Dehradun region. The regional officer Singh said that the affiliated school, students and general public would be immensely benefitted by the new regional office and the centre of excellence where training would be provided to the teachers. At present, the teachers of the Dehradun region have to travel to Rai Bareilly for training.
Singh later told The Pioneer that work on construction of building on the allotted land would start soon.
The office of the CBSE Dehradun was set up in January 2014 by taking away many districts of Western Uttar Pradesh and 13 districts of Uttarakhand from the Allahabad region. The CBSE took a building located on Kaulagarh road, Rajendra Nagar area of the city and started the office. It is learnt that the CBSE is paying a sum of Rs 10 Lakh a month as rent for this building. In view of astronomically high rent the CBSE was in favor of having its own office in Dehradun.
