CBI registers cases against former AIIMS-Rishikesh staff & others

Searches conducted at 24 locations in four States regarding Rs 4.41 crore anomalies

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered two separate cases against the accused including the then additional professors, the then assistant professor, the then administrative officer, and the then accounts officer of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh along with the proprietor of a private firm based in New Delhi and unknown others on the allegations of malpractices in the award of tenders for procurement of road sweeping machine and for setting up of a chemist shop inside AIIMS, Rishikesh.

According to the authorities, it was further alleged that the accused public servants grossly violated the guidelines of the Government of India pertaining to the tendering process, dishonestly screened out reputed bidders on bogus grounds and allowed insignificant firms who had misrepresented facts in their tender documents, to remain in the fray. It was also alleged that the accused deliberately ignored the existence of cartel formation in these tenders. The accused thereafter allegedly caused the disappearance of crucial evidence of the offence. An alleged loss of approximately Rs 2.41 crore in the procurement of a road sweeping machine and approximately Rs two crore in the award of tender for setting up of a chemist shop was caused to AIIMS.

Searches in both cases were conducted on Friday at 24 different locations in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi.

The then AIIMS staff accused in the first case relating to the loss of about Rs 2.41 crore include the then additional professor, Department of Microbiology, Balramji Omar,  Dr Brijendra Singh, then professor and head, Department of Anatomy, Dr Anubha Agarwal, then assistant professor (Hospital Administration),  Shashi Kant, then administrative officer, Deepak Joshi, then accounts officer along with Puneet Sharma, proprietor of Pro-Medic Devices, Delhi and unknown public servant(s) and private person(s).

The accused in the second case relating to the loss of about Rs two crore include Triveni Sewa Pharmacy (Delhi) partners Pankaj Sharma, Shubham Sharma and Triveni Sewa Pharmacy, Dilshad Colony, Shahdara, Delhi along with unknown public servants.
