The Bharatiya Janata Party has reiterated that the State government’s decision to recommend a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Ankita Bhandari murder case is a welcome step, adding that it will resolve any remaining doubts in the case. Stating this, the BJP national vice president and State co in-charge Rekha Verma appreciated chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for honouring the sentiments of the victim’s family and taking a sensible decision in the case.
Interacting with the media at the party’s State office here on Saturday, Verma said that the BJP State government had immediately directed a probe by a special investigation team as soon as the matter came to light. The accused were arrested without delay.
Strong advocacy in the court with the consent of the victim’s family resulted in the court sentencing the guilty to life imprisonment. “Recently, the audio recordings and videos of conversations between two persons, which recently went viral on social media, created an atmosphere of doubt and confusion in the State. The CM decided to talk to the victim’s family and after their consent, he recommended a probe by the CBI in the case. We hope that this announcement will put a stop to the political and social debate,” she said, adding that it is hoped that all doubts will be cleared after the completion of this probe.
Verma said that those who do not have faith in the CBI and other constitutional bodies are sure to be silenced by this. Referring to the opposition, she said that they accuse the CBI of working under the pressure of the government and on the other hand they demand a probe by the agency in every case. She alleged that the unfortunate murder of Ankita Bhandari has always been a political issue for the Congress whereas the BJP organisation and the government always honoured the victim’s family and public sentiment.
