CBI nabs CPWD AE accepting Rs one lakh bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested an assistant engineer of Central Public Works Department, Dehradun, Sandeep Kumar in a case relating to acceptance of Rs 1,00,000 as bribe from the complainant. The CBI registered a case against the assistant engineer on a complaint that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 5.50 lakh for allowing the complainant to continue the construction work unhindered, of a residential colony at Seema Dwar area of Dehradun.

Officials said that a trap was laid by the CBI and the accused was caught red handed while accepting Rs 1,00,000 from the complainant as part payment. The CBI conducted searches at the premises of the accused and about Rs 20,49,500 cash was recovered from the residential premises of the accused. Certain incriminating documents were also recovered. The accused will be produced before the competent court on Wednesday. The investigation in the case is continuing, officials added.
