Police arrest main accused in Haridwar shooting case

Two groups of BJP workers had clashed near MLA’s home earlier this month

The police have arrested one of the main accused Vishnu Arora in the case of a violent altercation and shooting outside the home of a local Bharatiya Janata Party leader near the home of former BJP State president and local MLA Madan Kaushik in Khannanagar locality. Arora was arrested from Ambala in Haryana on Thursday. The police took him to the location of the incident in Khannanagar and also questioned him.

On August 6, two groups of local party workers clashed near the residence of Kaushik. The group headed by Arora had allegedly fired some rounds in the air during the altercation with Deepak Tandon outside his home. It is alleged that two men had reached the site with others armed with sticks, swords and a pistol. Tandon had filed a case against 15 accused and 30 unidentified accused following the violent altercation.

In this case, one of the accused was caught by the aggrieved party and handed over to the police, while the other was arrested by the police later.  Two youth were caught by the police three days ago. 

Superintendent of police (City) Swatantra Kumar Singh said that accused Vishnu Arora has been arrested and brought to Haridwar. The police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 10,000 on his arrest. He will be produced in the court soon.  The police are searching for the remaining accused in the case and soon they will also be arrested, said Singh.
