Terming the decision of the Union government on conducting the caste census historic and revolutionary, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the government’s U turn on caste census is the victory of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s politics which is based on truth and concerns of the general public.
He said that Gandhi raised the issue with the slogan “Jiski jitni sankhya bhari, uski utni hissedari,’’ both inside the parliament and outside it. He said BJP initially openly opposed the caste census by terming it divisive but has now bowed down under the public pressure and consistent struggle of Rahul Gandhi. This change signifies moral loss for the ruling party and victory of the public sentiments.
He said that the caste census is not only a tool to know the social equations but it will act as a basis of policy making, analysis of reservation, justified distribution of resources and representation.
Mahara said that there are many such classes in the country which have neither received political representation nor got necessary participation in the social schemes.
The PCC president said that Rahul Gandhi not only demanded caste census but held dialogue with people of every section of the society through his Bharat Jodo Yatra and Nyay Yatra during which he found that social justice is the key for prosperity and unity of the country.
It was the foresightedness of Rahul Gandhi that he continued his struggle on the issue despite the pressure from the power, propaganda of media and political protest.
Mahara said that BJP should understand that the decision on caste census should not become mere political strategy and its process should be transparent, scientific and impartial. People now want effective implementation and practical change, he said.
