The decision to cancel class XII board examinations has elicited mixed reactions from the students. Some students have expressed relief while others seem apprehensive about the effect of this decision on their future.

Shubham Semwal a class XII student in Mussoorie who has mixed thoughts about this said, “Considering the threat of Covid-19 the decision is right but what next? Doubt still prevails on the alternate formula for results and the effect of this decision on our future. ”

Another student Preeti Raturi said, “I did so much preparation for my exams and I really wanted the exams to take place so that I could perform. Now the result will not be authentic and I am still anxious about my future as marks would be given to us by looking at our past performances which will not be as better as it could have been.”

Kanchan Sirswal of Gairsain expressed disappointment in the decision stating it will affect the student’s future. She she said, “I am willing to give exams as I know results won’t be that accurate this time but now all I am hoping for is good marks.” However, another student of the same school Kamlesh Rawat was extremely happy and said that this ongoing Covid-19 situation is so stressful that the cancellation was the best option.

Akshit Bisht of Kotdwar said that he is happy with the decision as at least now there’s no more confusion in student’s minds. “The delay in the decision was causing anxiety and stress among students and this pandemic was also a major disruption in our education as no technology can ever replace the real classroom teaching,” he added.

His father Maharaj Bisht welcomed this decision and said that in this situation it’s the best decision as the lives of students was at stake so it was best to cancel the exams. “As parents we were naturally worried about the health of our child in such a situation,” he said.

Arif Khan of the National Association for Parents and Students Rights (NAPSR) considers this an extremely sensible decision taken by the government as the students’ mental and physical health should be the utmost priority. He said, “Teachers and students are not vaccinated so we can’t even think about risking their lives. We were always in support of canceling the board exams because in these unprecedented times nothing is the same as before, especially education and many students were also not mentally prepared to appear in the exams amid the pandemic.”
