Cambrian Hall reduces fee hike after DM’s intervention following parent complaints

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
Dehradun’s Cambrian Hall school has rolled back its previously imposed 10 per cent fee hike to five per cent following the intervention of Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal. The decision came after many parents raised concerns during the public hearing held on July 14, where they reported that the school had increased fees despite earlier district orders issued in May restricting such hikes.
Considering the complaints, the DM formed a team led by chief development officer (CDO) Abhinav Shah and directed it to examine the matter. The administration also initiated steps to review the school’s CBSE affiliation, including checking the conditions under which the No Objection Certificate (NOC) had been granted by the State government.
Bansal informed that following this, the school principal was summoned and served a notice. A warning was issued for not adhering to the May 30 directive that restricted arbitrary fee increases. In response, Cambrian Hall has now submitted a written undertaking to adjust the previously collected excess fees in future monthly bills, as per the DM.
He stated that the school has also informed parents that no late fees will be charged to those who have not paid yet. Besides this, students of Class IX and X who have not opted for Computer Science will no longer be charged computer fees. Parents are now allowed to purchase books and uniforms from any vendor of their choice, as per the district administration’s directions. The DM stated that education is a right and not a commodity and that any institution found violating norms or exploiting parents will face strict action, including cancellation of affiliation.
