PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

To boost silk production in the State, the Cabinet has taken some important decisions at its meeting held here on Tuesday chaired by the chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami. The State Agriculture minister, Ganesh Joshi said that the proposal to increase the minimum support price (MSP) of cocoons (silkworm shells) prepared by the department concerned has been approved. “Now the prices of cocoons produced in the State will be higher than last year and this will boost income of the silk producers as well the silk sector,” the State Agriculture minister, Ganesh Joshi said.

At present, Dehradun and Bageshwar are the two districts in Uttarakhand where cocoon is produced on a large scale. The government hopes that the new rates will promote silk production in other districts as well.
