PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Uttarkashi

A major accident was narrowly averted this morning when a bus carrying 41 pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh overturned at a hairpin bend near Nalupani on the Gangotri National Highway around 9:45 AM. The bus, bearing registration number UK13PA-0085, lost control en route to Gangotri Dham from Yamunotri Dham.

Dharasu police swung into operation on receiving the information of the accident. A total of 29 passengers who sustained minor injuries were transported to the community health centre at Dunda for treatment. All the injured are reported to be out of danger.

The additional district magistrate P L Shah who has been monitoring the situation from the Chardham Smart Control Room, visited the site. Administrative sources later confirmed that 8 to 10 had suffered minor injuries.

The accident has, however, sparked concern among the pilgrims, highlighting once again the pressing need for stricter safety measures and infrastructure improvements on the Char Dham Yatra routes. Authorities have assured that a review of current safety protocols would be done to prevent recurrence of such accidents in future.
