Body donation awareness programme slated in Haldwani on Aug 3

A body donation awareness programme will be held under the aegis of Science for Society (United) – an organisation dedicated to combating social evils and superstitions- on August 3 in Haldwani. Notably, a similar awareness event was conducted in September 2024 in Ramnagar where 28 individuals, including 10 women, pledged to donate their bodies after death by signing consent forms.

The spokesperson of the society, Girish Arya said that his organisation has been running public awareness campaigns for a long time to challenge the deeply rooted superstitions and traditions which impeded the body donation movement. “But we cannot ignore the importance of body donation as the students in medical colleges require access to human bodies for research and study purposes,” he said, adding that a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy is an essential part of medical studies.

Sharing more, he said that dissection of human bodies significantly contributed to the development of new medical technologies.

“But the aversion of people to body donation comes in the way of research progress,” he added.
