Blood Garuda service starts at district hospital

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

With the delivery of the electric vehicle from the company, the Blood Garuda service has started at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital. This initiative has been mandated by the district magistrate. Following the district magistrate’s authorisation, the hospital also ordered an electric four-wheeled vehicle to support the Blood Garuda service.

The medical superintendent of the hospital Dr VS Chauhan stated that the hospital has recently received an electric four-wheeler in response to the recent order. He said that, with the arrival of the vehicle, the Blood Garuda service is now operational at the hospital. Further, he said that it was previously necessary for the Chief Development Officer (CDO) to hire a driver for this service. However, the hospital currently has four drivers, which is sufficient. As a result, we have deployed one of them to the Blood Garuda service.

He said that a fee of Rs 50 has been established for accessing this service. He added that the Blood Garuda service will be advantageous for attendees, as they will be directed by the hospital administration to a specific hospital or blood bank when blood is needed. This service will facilitate easy access to the designated location. Dr Chauhan said that approximately Rs 11 lakh has been invested in acquiring electric vehicles for the Blood Garuda service.

It will be recalled that earlier Dr Chauhan informed about the significance of this service, pointing out the current lack of a blood bank at the hospital, which forces patients’ families to visit multiple hospitals to obtain blood. The Blood Garuda service will help simplify this process by providing transportation to nearby facilities that have blood available. Additionally, he mentioned that the construction of the blood bank is currently in progress and the entire project is expected to be finished within six months.
