Congress workers waved black banners and raised slogans to protest against recruitment scams and questionable appointments in the Vidhan Sabha when cabinet minister and minister in-charge of the district Prem Chand Agrawal arrived here to participate in various events on Saturday. The party workers staged their protest on arrival of the minister’s motorcade. After a brief and light scuffle with the police the protesters were detained.
The local Congress workers started raising slogans as soon as the minister’s motorcade arrived here. The police got to the site and attempted to placate the protesters. However, the party workers continued to protest, raise slogans and wave black flags at the minister. When the Congress members continued to protest they were detained by the police. New Tehri SHO Kamal Mohan Bhandari said that the detained protesters were issued a warning and released later.
It will be recalled that appointments made to various posts in the Vidhan Sabha during the tenure of Agrawal as the Assembly speaker have also elicited questions and strong opinions.
