NACOF seeks permission to sell manure produced in waste management plant in Sheeshambada

The agency managing the solid waste management and recycling plant in Sheeshambada has applied for a license and NOCs required to the departments concerned to sell manure being produced in the plant.  About 400 metric tonnes of garbage is daily dumped in the waste management plant in Sheeshambada but its proper disposal has always been a matter of concern for the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD).

The officials said that Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) which was managing the plant before has left a heap of about 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) in the plant as they failed to timely process it. Its disposal is still a serious concern for MCD. Though the corporation has asked the REEL to make arrangements for the disposal of the accumulated RDF, officials said that the new Bhopal-based agency- National Federation of Farmers’ Procurement, Processing and Retailing Cooperatives of India Ltd, (NACOF)  that replaced REEL has also been directed to ensure timely disposal of garbage including RDF and manure.

The municipal chief health officer Dr Avinash Khanna said that the new company is taking all possible steps to dispose of RDF and the sanitation section has found no irregularity in their work so far.  He said that the plant receives nearly 400 metric tonnes of garbage on daily basis and the agency is making about 30 metric tonnes of manure every day. He said that the agency has prepared over 700 metric tonnes of manure so far. It has appealed for a license and NOCs required to sell manure in the departments concerned and would soon start selling it after getting the required permissions.

On the question of how the new agency will sell a huge amount of manure produced in the plant when REEL failed to do it, Khanna said that REEL was also initially selling manure and RDF to some agencies who later rejected them due to substandard quality. He said that the NACOF has good-quality manure and would soon start selling it after getting the required permissions possibly within a month.
