The Bharatiya Janata Party has welcomed the decision to cancel the graduate-level examination of the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) which had elicited controversy due to an alleged leak. The BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt said that the decision is in accordance with the sentiment of the students. He said that the interests of the students are foremost for the BJP government. Considering this, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s decision to hold the examination again is strongly supported by the party organisation and the public, he said.
Responding to the decision to cancel the said examination on Saturday, Bhatt said that this step was necessary to completely resolve all doubts of the students. “Since the start, the party and the government were clear that the recruitment examinations should be held in a transparent manner, with honesty, in a systematic and time bound manner. Moving forward on this commitment, the chief minister brought a strict anti-copying law following which more than 25,000 youths were appointed to government jobs. There was not a single occasion when the students doubted the fairness of the examinations. However, the recently held graduate-level UKSSSC examination saw one attempt at copying in one examination centre. Immediate action was taken as soon as this came to light and the main accused and other accused involved were arrested while a special investigation team was also formed to probe the case. Despite this, some students continued to demand a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the CM met the students and agreed to this demand,” the BJP State president said. He further said that all the youths were satisfied with the CM’s assurance on a CBI probe though there were still some doubts regarding the examination in their minds. Considering this, the BJP had sent a delegation of its MLAs to request the government to cancel the examination in order to clear all doubts in the minds of the students. “It is a matter of satisfaction that on the chief minister’s initiative, the courageous decision of holding the examination again was taken by the government to clear all doubts in the minds of the youths. The sentiments of the youths are more important for us than politics. We do not want anyone to have a reason to question the credibility of the examinations built during the past four years. Considering this, the BJP fully supports all such decisions taken by the State government,” the party’s State president added.
