The Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to finalise its candidates for some of the assembly constituencies within a couple of days. On Saturday, the members of the party’s state core committee and election committee held discussions for shortlisting the names of party candidates from Assembly constituencies in the presence of the party’s state election in-charge Pralhad Joshi, party state in-charge Dushyant Kumar Gautam, BJP state president Madan Kaushik, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other senior leaders.

Talking to media persons Joshi said that based on the feedback of senior leaders in the core committee and discussions on ticket contenders in the constituencies in the election committee, the shortlist of candidates will be submitted to the party’s centre leadership. Following the meeting with the party’s central leadership on Sunday-Monday, the first list of candidates is expected to be released soon, he said.

Chief minister Dhami said that there was a long list of ticket hopefuls in the party. He said that, being a democratic set-up, the party organisation had held discussions at various levels before deliberating on these names in the core group and election committee.

Meanwhile, the absence of cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat from the core group meeting gave rise to speculation about him being miffed. However, the party has quashed such speculation while Rawat averred that he had not been informed about the meeting.

Former chief ministers Trivendra Singh Rawat, Tirath Singh Rawat, Vijay Bahuguna, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and other senior party leaders were also present in the core committee meeting.
