Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Vikas Bhagat has criticised Congress MLA Sumit Hridayesh’s hyperactivity during the Supreme Court hearing on the Vanbhoolpura case on Tuesday, labelling it as appeasement politics. Bhagat stated that Hridayesh’s presence in the court throughout the hearing demonstrates his focus on securing votes from a specific community rather than prioritising the development of Haldwani.

Bhagat said “It is unfortunate that, under the influence of vote bank politics,  Hridayesh appears to be heading in the wrong direction. While the State is progressing under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Congress leaders and their party are working to drag Uttarakhand backward.”

He raised several questions, asking whether Hridayesh is not concerned about the development of railway facilities in Haldwani. He questioned why Hridayesh is opposing projects that enhance employment, transportation and connectivity in the city.

Bhagat said that the law applies equally to all and that justifying illegal occupation of government land is harmful to both society and the systemic order. He emphasised that public representatives should prioritise the overall development of their area rather than support illegal activities for political gain.

Bhagat added that the progress of Haldwani, the development of railway facilities and respect for the law should not be overshadowed by politics. He alleged that Hridayesh’s actions significantly hurt the sentiments of the people of Haldwani and Uttarakhand.
